Saville Consulting are a new company founded in 2004 with an aim to revolutionise the Occupational Psychology industry.
A small team of industry experienced IT professionals was recruited to develop an industry leading application platform that would deliver the companies range of new and innovative products. The companies focus was on innovation and cutting edge approaches so the latest tools and techniques were to be used.
I was involved in the full project lifecycle from business analysis and system specification, through wire frame design, iterative prototyping, interface design and development, report design and development, system testing and usability testing.
The project was developed at an incredible rate with a small team of developers working closely together in a modular approach. The design of the system used pure CSS for the layout and positioning, creating valid XHTML 1 code and conforming to WAI guidelines to Level A with an ongoing project to move towards AA compliance. By using CSS for layout and branding the system was fully client configurable allowing for client branding, font and colours to be used without code change.
The entire system works without client scripting enabled and transforms gracefully for older browsers.
The reports were developed using XSL-FO which was transformed to lightweight PDF files on the server for easy distribution and reliable printing.
A flash player was also developed using Flash 8 and Flash remoting which allowed for delivery of timed ability tests. I designed and coded the initial working prototype before handing over to the development team. The flash player was also designed to be client configurable using XML configuration files to set colours and fonts.
